International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP)
Associations | Organization bodies
The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) is an independent scientific commission that aims to protect people and the environment against adverse effects of non-ionising radiation, including optical radiation from ultraviolet to infrared. Chartered in 1992 as successor to the International Non-Ionizing Radiation Committee and registered as a non-profit association in Munich, it is formally recognised by the WHO and the ILO and is consulted by the European Commission. Its guidelines and statements, among them the Statement on Light-Emitting Diodes (2020), assess the photobiological safety of LEDs, lamps and lasers, from blue light to UV exposure.
