Violumas Adds 255nm LEDs to Extensive UV LED Product Line

Violumas, provider of high-power UV LED solutions and inventor of 3-PAD LED technology, is proud to announce the release of new 255nm LEDs in mid-power, high-power, and high-density packages.

The addition of 255nm LEDs to Violumas’ extensive product line allows for new application developments in ozone monitoring, water quality management, disinfection, bioanalysis, semiconductor processing, and environmental sensing.

The single-chip 255nm LED is offered in a compact SMD package of 5.2mm x 5.2mm with a radiant flux of 51mW (If:500mA). The new 255nm LEDs are also available in 4-LED, 9-LED, and 16-LED chip-on-board (COB) configurations and provide unrivaled levels of power for any UVC application.

Each LED is encapsulated with a single, high-transmission fused silica lens that allows for long-term, stable performance over time. A selection of 30°, 60°, 90°, 120°, and 135° optics is available to accommodate a wide variety of UVC applications.

Due to the integrated thermal structure (3-PAD) in the Flip Chip LED and the Metal Core PCB, Violumas LEDs achieve rapid thermal dissipation rates and lower thermal resistance values. As UVC LEDs generate immense amounts of heat and require substantial cooling solutions, this technology is critical for more reliable, compact, and long-lasting UVC LED systems.

With the continual development of high performance UVC LEDs, Violumas aims to accelerate industry adoption by providing a wide variety of products which can be suitable for any application from spectroscopy to disinfection.

Far-UVC LEDs transmit data at record speed | Ferdinand-Braun-Institut

Researchers at Ferdinand-Braun-Institut (FBH), the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Cambridge demonstrated wireless optical communication using far-UVC LEDs at wavelengths below 235 nm, achieving data rates up to 1.5 gigabits per second over a 30 cm line-of-sight link. The FBH-developed LEDs are optimized for high optical power and fast modulation by segmenting the emitting surface to reduce capacitance and increase current density. Far-UVC offers low solar background outdoors and stronger Rayleigh scattering for potential non-line-of-sight links. Next steps include testing longer distances, non-line-of-sight performance, and environmental effects on transmission.
