Climalux simplifies the transition to LED lighting in 2027

Dutch grow light maker Climalux has developed a new power supply unit (PSU) that lets greenhouse growers replace SON-T lamps (high-pressure sodium lamps) with its LED grow lights without changing the existing power cabling. The PSU is dimmable, has a low inrush current and sits outside the lamp, which keeps the fixture compact. SON-T lamps are being phased out under stricter European rules.

SON-T lamps are being phased out and will soon no longer be permitted for sale due to stricter European regulations concerning the environment, toxic substances, and energy efficiency. Growers currently using these lamps are therefore required to switch to new LED lighting. In response, Climalux has developed a new power supply unit (PSU) that eliminates the need for any changes to existing (power) cabling.

Climalux has streamlined the replacement of SON-T lamps with LED alternatives by creating a ready-to-use solution. This system utilizes a single power supply per lamp, requiring no additional cabling, while preserving the key feature of the Climalux lamp: an integrated fan that cools the unit and provides adjustable vertical ventilation within the greenhouse.

The new PSU features a low inrush current and exceptionally high electrical efficiency. The unit is infinitely dimmable and allows for independent settings for work lighting and/or grow lighting. Because the hardware is not built into the lamp itself, the fixture retains its compact design, minimizing shading within the greenhouse. Furthermore, users enjoy flexibility in placement, with the option to connect multiple fixtures to a single PSU.

The power supplies and lamps are controlled by the Climalux HCU—the core of the Climalux full-LED grow lighting system. Through the HLP protocol, the HCU can be integrated with horticultural climate computers from all major suppliers, including Ridder, Hoogendoorn, and Priva.
