“Manufacturers of lighting solutions, such as LED lighting systems, require the appropriate converters for switching, protecting, and regulating. Therefore, considering the most common converter topology in LED markets, constant voltage or constant current power supplies, the components at the heart of the power converter systems need to be sourced easily and efficiently. Our specialisation is in wound components for SMPS (switch mode power supplies), LED drivers and electronic ballasts,” explains Ruggero Ravazzini, Precision range product manager at Components Bureau. “However, when you need a transformer or inductor urgently and lead times start from 6 weeks, it can cause major headaches. Increasingly long lead times are a common problem facing many at the moment.”

“We guarantee response times within 14 days from drawings to samples as standard and production volumes from as little as 3 weeks ex-factory,” adds Ravazzini.

Specific to LED driver designs, the Precision range includes PFC chokes, common mode chokes and switch mode transformers. In addition to wound component supply, Components Bureau offers supporting services in terms of materials sourcing, metalwork and some PCB assembly.

Both standard and fully-custom products are built at the company’s affiliated ISO9001:2008-certified plants in China and are fully designed and tested in accordance to International standards (UL (cURus) / CENELEC / IEC EN/ standards prior to dispatch. Custom marking and packaging options are available upon request.

UK now allows approved LED replacement bulbs in MOT tests

From 14 October 2026, MOT testers must accept ECE approved LED replacement (LEDr) bulbs fitted in compatible halogen headlamp units on class 3, 4, 5 and 7 vehicles. The change does not apply to class 1 and 2 motorcycles, halogen units converted for HID bulbs, or full LED headlamp unit replacements. Approved LEDr products must carry a permanent, secure approval sticker on the vehicle visible during the MOT. Testers need only check the presence and condition of this sticker and must fail the headlamp where the sticker is missing, unreadable, appears tampered with, or does not match the fitted bulb.

IEC 60598-2-24:2026 published — updated requirements for limited-surface-temperature luminaires

The new edition of IEC 60598-2-24:2026 has been officially published. It specifies essential safety requirements for luminaires intended for use where combustible dust or flammable materials are present, necessitating strict control of enclosure surface temperatures to prevent fire or ignition. The revision aligns test methods and construction requirements with recent developments in industrial and specialist lighting and with the latest edition of the general standard CEI EN 60598-1:2024. Publication of the EN and subsequent CEI standard will follow as formal steps, after unanimous positive votes. ASSIL members can contact the Technical Area for clarification.
