The Connectivity Standards Alliance is the global standards organisation behind Zigbee and Matter, the open IoT protocols that let connected lights, switches and sensors from different brands work together. Founded in 2002 as the Zigbee Alliance and renamed in 2021, it develops, certifies and promotes universal open standards for the Internet of Things: Zigbee, a low-power mesh network with over a billion devices deployed in homes and commercial buildings, extended to sub-GHz bands with Zigbee 4.0 and Suzi, and Matter, the unifying IP-based protocol for interoperable smart-home devices. Its certification programmes let manufacturers show that their products interoperate; the Alliance has more than 1,000 member companies and is based in Davis, California.
