Specification and Applications for ProLight Opto's Recently Released UV-C LEDs
Escalation of the Coronavirus outbreak have led to higher demand for Ultra-Violet C (UV-C) LED around the world. UV-C as a germicidal light source can inactivates microorganisms by destroying nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA with its short wavelength. The effective germicidal wavelength is between 200-290 nm; shorter wavelength is more efficient but is also more damaging to the human body. The major chip manufacturers make 265-285 nm as mainstream wavelength, because it can improve single chip's radiometric power and increase in sterilization efficiency.

Fast Production Test of UV-LEDs
Numerous applications, for example in the medical area or in material testing, are based on precisely specified UV radiation. For UV-B and UV-C emitters, the measurement of their spectrum between 325 nm down to 200 nm is generally only possible with extended measurement times due to their low radiant flux. As such, a condition for fast testing within production is high reliability in conjunction with high optical throughput of all participating system components. Within its well-established CAS-series of premium spectroradiometers over many years, Instrument Systems has developed a novel series-type CAS 140D-157. This new system measures precisely and reliably not only within the visible spectrum, but also in the UV. Coupled with a PTFE-coated integrating sphere, the system permits for fast 24/7 production tests of UV emitters to be run.

UV LED Technology for Emerging Applications in Agriculture
The Ultraviolet (UV) LED market has expanded five-fold in the past decade and is projected to grow to over $1 billion by 2025. A key trend expected to influence the market is the ability to expand into new applications, including agriculture. UV light, at proper frequency and dose, can increase the production of active substances in medicinal and traditional plants and it can also help maintain a healthy growing environment. But to fully take advantage of UV LEDs, some major re-design considerations are required. Terrance Berland, CEO of the Violet Defense Group, the parent company of Violet Gro, will explain which considerations these are; for instance, why it is crucial to incorporate the appropriate lens material.
