The vibrant output and ease of driving of the new purple LED SMD lamp makes it ideal for applications such as backlighting, mood-lighting, displays and status indication on items such as front panels and keypads, as well as signalling and industrial electronics. LG Innotek Unveils Full Lineup of Horticulture LEDs

LG Innotek today announced that it set up a full lineup of “horticulture LEDs,” which are the light sources that can make plants grow faster than under the sunlight, and will venture into the global market. LG Innotek secured 30 types of horticulture LED packages optimized according to light wavelength and power consumption. Innovative XLS Product Family from Osram is Revolutionizing the Signal Lamp Market

Osram is launching XLS (eXchangable LED Signal), standardized LED light sources for signal light applications in the automotive industry. By combining standardized light sources and LED technology they will fundamentally change the automotive signal lamp sector. “For the first time, a uniform platform with four different light sources can cover all the important signal applications in vehicles. Osram - 40% Increased Efficiency of Green LEDs Improves Battery Life of Fitness Trackers

The significant drop in light output (green gap phenomenon) exhibited by green LEDs has often been the cause of efficiency problems and high costs in customer applications. For its indium gallium nitride (InGaN)-based green LEDs, Osram Opto Semiconductors has now succeeded in reducing the typical forward voltages by around 600 mV drastically. New Infrared LED from Osram for 2D Facial Recognition

Smartphones, tablets and the like can now be unlocked in very different ways: with a password, fingerprint scan or even an iris scan. 2D facial recognition is another method and involves illuminating the user’s face with an infrared light source and capturing the image with an IR camera. The system then compares the image with the images previously stored for the purposes of identification, focusing on characteristic two-dimensional features. If there is a match for the various data such as the width of the mouth, length of the nasal ridge and distance between the eyes then the device will be unlocked. Read more »
