Cree and Epistar Signed a Global LED Chip Patent Cross-License Agreement
Cree, Inc. and Epistar Corporation have signed a worldwide patent cross-license agreement for light emitting diode (LED) chips to further advance the growth of the LED lighting and LED bulb markets. Cree and Epistar both hold broad and substantial LED chip patent portfolios that are important for making blue LEDs, the foundation of white LEDs found in most lighting products manufactured worldwide. Under the terms of the agreement, each party receives a license to the other’s nitride LED chip patents and is granted certain rights to non-nitride LED chip patents. Over the term of the agreement, Cree will receive a licensing fee and royalty payments from Epistar. Read more »

The most important export markets for Hong Kong are the United States (+9.8%), the Chinese mainland (+15.3%) and Japan (+0.4%), together accounting for more than 50 per cent of the total export value. Out of Bounds Design Contest - Students Exploring Complete Freedom in Lighting Design Seventeen innovative prototypes are the outcome of a four-month long journey taken by students from the Department of Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich, Germany. Investment Group Acquires Bridgelux and Bridgelux Spins Off Xenio for Smart Lighting
Bridgelux, a leading developer and manufacturer of solid state lighting (SSL) technologies, announced it has entered a definitive agreement to be acquired by an investment group led by the China Electronics Corporation (CEC), and ChongQing Linkong Development Investment Company. Established in 1989, CEC controls 61 second-level subsidiaries, including 13 listed holding companies. With over 70,000 employees, CEC is one of the largest IT companies in China. In conjunction with the sale of Bridgelux to the investment group led by CEC, Bridgelux also announced that the Board of Directors has approved a plan to spin off its Smart Lighting LED platform business under the name of Xenio Corporation.
