Seoul Semiconductor and Philips Enter Into a Cross-License Agreement
Today, Seoul Semiconductor Co., Ltd. announced that they and Royal Philips Electronics have agreed to settle their pending legal cases and to enter into a cross-license agreement covering patents relating to specific LED technology areas. Rubicon Technology Patent Allowed for In-situ Crystal Orientation
Rubicon Technology, Inc., a leading provider of sapphire substrates and products to the LED, semiconductor, and optical industries, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has allowed Rubicon’s patent application entitled, “Intelligent Machines and Process for Production of Monocrystalline Products with Goniometer Continual Feedback.” The patent covers Rubicon’s equipment and process developed to perform in-situ orientation of its sapphire crystals within the various fabrication tools used by the Company. Rejection of Osram’s Infringement Case vs. Dominant Issued by OLG Karlsruhe
The OLG Karlsruhe and the Landgericht Mannheim has confirmed that 10 of the claims against DOMINANT are not valid. As a result of the proceedings, the Federal Patent Court of Germany have also nullified 4 out of 7 Osram intellectual property rights and the European Patent Office has revoked one. Power Integrations Reports Verdict in Patent Case Against Fairchild Semiconductor
Power Integrations announced a verdict reached in the company's 2008 patent-infringement lawsuit against Fairchild Semiconductor. After a three-week trial in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, a jury found that Fairchild infringes two Power Integrations patents. On December 20th, 2011, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (“MCC” “; Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshimitsu Kobayashi), has filed an infringement lawsuit in Seoul Central District Court against a USpany, Intematix Corporation and a Korean distributor, GVP, to enjoin them from importing and selling their phosphor products, claiming that they infringe a red phosphor patent in Korea (No. 816693) which is owned by MCC and National Institute of Material Science. Lumitech Licenses Seoul Semiconductor for  PI-LED Technology Applications Seoul Semiconductor, a global leading LED components manufacturer from Korea, and the Austrian company Lumitech, a leading manufacturer of components for Human Centric Lighting announced a licensing agreement for PI-LED technology patents. These patents govern the industrial trade mark rights of Lumitech’s PI-LED technology, which can implement tunable white from 2.500 to 7.000K with perfect colour rendering in a high and constant efficiency. Everlight Files Patent Infringement Suit against Nichia in US Court
Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. today filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Nichia Corp. in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Everlight Fights Back Against Nichia in LED Patent Battle
After Everlight won a victory over Nichia for the patent administrative litigation (Patent No. 089036) in the Taiwan Supreme Administrative Court in October 2011, the Taiwan Supreme Court this November ruled in favor of Everlight again in the civil infringement case on Nichia’s patent in issue, which finalizes all cases regarding this patent. Furthermore, facing the situation that Nichia has affected fair competitive market mechanisms by filing patent infringement lawsuits and announcing press releases, Everlight decided to fight back. Today (12/1), Everlight brought a lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court demanding that Nichia stop spreading false allegations and seeking an award of damages. Read more »

Cree Licenses Remote Phosphor Patent Portfolio to NNCrystal
Cree, Inc. announced it signed a non-exclusive worldwide license agreement with Hangzhou Najing Technologies, Ltd. (NNCrystal US Corp.) that provides access to Cree’s remote phosphor patent portfolio. The licensed family of patents addresses the fundamental combination of a blue LED and a remote phosphor element to produce white light, as well as the manufacture, design and placement of the optical element, enabling lighting manufacturers that use NNCrystal’s remote phosphor optical elements to manufacture remote phosphor-based LED lights without taking a separate remote phosphor patent license from Cree. Cree and Epistar Signed a Global LED Chip Patent Cross-License Agreement
Cree, Inc. and Epistar Corporation have signed a worldwide patent cross-license agreement for light emitting diode (LED) chips to further advance the growth of the LED lighting and LED bulb markets. Cree and Epistar both hold broad and substantial LED chip patent portfolios that are important for making blue LEDs, the foundation of white LEDs found in most lighting products manufactured worldwide. Under the terms of the agreement, each party receives a license to the other’s nitride LED chip patents and is granted certain rights to non-nitride LED chip patents. Over the term of the agreement, Cree will receive a licensing fee and royalty payments from Epistar. Read more »

Having looked at a wide variety of open protocols, TCLA has now endorsed ZigBee 3.0 for consumer applications and identified the Thread Group as the organization to develop a suitable network-layer protocol for indoor professional lighting applications.
