Enfis and North Star Lighting Partner: Next Generation of Intelligent LED Lighting Systems

Sentinel™ LED Lighting Systemfeature eliminates costly binning, color shift and provides full control for lighting designers and fixture makers.

Enfis Lighting (LSE: ENF), an innovator of intelligent LED lighting systems and technologies, today announced a strategic partnership with Chicago-based North Star Lighting, to jointly introduce the latest version of the highly popular Enfis Sentinel LED lighting control technology which eliminates the need for costly binning and the potential for color shifting over the lifetime of the LED lighting system.

Over the past few years there has been a great deal of interest in the development of a stable, spectrally tunable, radiometric source for a variety of photometric, colorimetric and radiometric programs. As white LEDs make their way into the general illumination market, color consistency becomes critical for acceptance. For example, the color of white light can vary greatly, from a warm yellow-white to a cool blue-white. Most phosphor-based, high-power white LEDs on the market today show significant color variations from one white LED to another. In side-by-side applications, such as wall washers, cove lights or other LED luminarie applications, this color variation can be highly noticeable and very unpleasant.

“Fixture manufacturers and lighting designers have been hesitant to embrace white LED lighting technology for general illumination for the fear of the varying and inconsistent color temperatures that these products have historically delivered,” said Dan Polito, president of Enfis Lighting North America. “Our Sentinel technology removes this fear by continually controlling and monitoring each individual wavelength of light.” Each Enfis 'smart' LED array system has active color temperature monitoring built-in, along with sophisticated heat-sensing components that control, calibrate and regulate the light output for the lifetime of the Enfis system.

Tom Rotkis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at North Star Lighting stated, “Inconsistency in color temperature and CRI have long been an issue with most traditional white light sources.  Still, ‘white’ LED poses certain challenges to lighting manufacturers and lighting specifiers.  Since white LED is so new and untested, it has become a point of contention with many specifiers as the definition of color temperature varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.” Rotkis further stated, “North Star Lighting views Enfis as a strategic partner who will enable us to develop performance based LED products for the Specification Market. With the Enfis ‘Intelligent’ LED lighting system we can virtually eliminate this problem, delivering consistent color quality from day one, all the way to the end of useful life.  Our partnership with Enfis is paramount to our ability to actually deliver something to market place which will be specifiable and not “just another LED product.”

Polito went on to say that, “Until now many lighting fixture manufactures and lighting designers have had to resort to expensive binning practices in order to take full advantage of all that LED lighting technology can offer, and cross their fingers that the luminarie would perform as required. By choosing ‘smart’ technology found in our UNO Plus or QUATTRO Mini LED product series they can now create an LED lighting delivery system that they can rest assured will lock in the performance characteristics they demand.”

The Enfis Intelligent LED Lighting System has been integrated into select luminaires from North Star Lighting and will be available for demonstration at Booth #2581 during the Lightfair International 2009 Trade Show & Conference from May 5 – 7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York.
