New Energy-Efficient Lighting Saves € 10,000 per Year at Nature Museum
Thanks to a new, energy-efficient LED lighting solution by Zumtobel, the Inatura Nature Museum in Dornbirn/Austria has started into a new lighting era. The museum’s previous lighting system using conventional spotlights has been replaced by advanced, energy-saving LED spotlights. With its compact, clear design, the Supersystem lighting system blends perfectly into the museum architecture. Inatura’s new lighting solution features 3-phase LED units, each including 3 LED spots with 2.6 W each, which have been installed in the entrance area as well as in large parts of the exhibition area. The client opted for Supersystem mainly because the old spotlights could simply be disassembled, allowing Supersystem units to be installed in the track system in place.

Toshiba to Light up the Mona Lisa with LED and Extend Partnership with Louvre to Interior Lighting
Toshiba Corporation today announced that it has reached a basic agreement with the Louvre Museum to replace part of the interior lighting of the Louvre with its own LED lighting. This is Phase 2 of a renovation project that Toshiba Corporation and the Louvre Museum have pursued in partnership since 2010. This next project phase will see renovation of LED lighting in important interior spaces of the museum. It includes specific exhibit lighting for Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, and for the Red Rooms, which display famous masterpieces such as Jacques-Louis David’s Consecration of the Emperor Napoleon I and Coronation of the Empress Josephine, as well as the Napoleon Hall, the Louvre’s main entrance.

Contemporary Lighting Art by Zumtobel at the New Re-Opened Kunstkammer Wien
After having been closed for more than 10 years, the Kunstkammer was presented to the public again on 1 March, with the explicit goal of making the history of the Habsburg collection and its most important figureheads known to an interested contemporary audience. The highest conservation requirements, content-related didactic criteria, but also emotional factors played an equally essential role for the new presentation of the Kunstkammer. Yet, the 2,200 exhibits included in the collection could not be more different in nature: among the highlights are outstanding works of the goldsmith’s art, such as the famous Saliera by Benvenuto Cellini, first-rate specimens of sculpture, such as the Krumau Madonna, masterly bronze statuettes, filigree ivory objects, but also precious clocks, games and scientific instruments.

Osram Illuminates the Sistine Chapel with a New LED Solution
The light manufacturer Osram is equipping the Sistine Chapel in Rome with a new type of LED solution. After 500 years, the art-historically outstanding works can now be viewed to a level of precision unique until now, and the especially art-conserving installation enables significantly higher illuminance values. In addition, 60% less power is consumed compared to the existing lighting installation. "Art presents the most demanding requirements on light. Following the globally unique lighting solution in the Lenbachhaus Museum in Munich, the world-renowned frescoes in the Sistine Chapel are now being subjected to the same extremely high lighting specifications, once again underlining the authority of Osram as integrated lighting expert operating in accordance with maximum specifications," stated Peter Laier, Osram’s Chief Technology Officer and executive board member responsible for the company’s general lighting business.
