New LED Driver Family Providing Flexibility and Ensuring Long LED Lifetime
Infineon Technologies extended the family of switch-mode LED drivers for high power LEDs. Combining thermal protection feature that contributes to the lifetime of LEDs with flexibility in output current range from 350mA up to multiple amperes, the new drivers are cost-effective solutions. ZMDI Launches Highly Efficient Boost Converter fot Low Voltage HB-LEDs Applications
ZMD AG, a global supplier of analog and mixed-signal solutions for automotive, industrial, and medical applications, is introducing its first step-up converter with integrated 35 V power switch for high brightness LEDs. It is optimal for driving multiple white LEDs connected in series from a low voltage supply. The ZLED7015 can also drive devices that require a constant voltage and the wide input voltage range of 6V to 30V supports applications with input voltage from multi-cell batteries or regulated 12V and 24V power rails. A low voltage feedback mechanism helps maximize the operating efficiency and the device’s soft-start function and open circuit detection protects the application circuit and extends the LED life.

NXP Extends LED Driver ICs for Compact, Non-Dimmable Lamps
NXP Semiconductors N.V. today announced the availability of several new LED driver ICs in its SSL2108x family for compact, non-dimmable retrofit lamps, following the success of the SSL21081. With the addition of the SSL21082, SSL21083 and SSL21084, NXP now provides a single platform for lamp designers developing for 100V – 120V and 230V mains voltages, as well as all power ranges up to 25 W. Based on GreenChip™ technology, the SSL2108x family has been optimized for non-isolated topologies with high output voltages, and for applications in which compatibility with triac dimmers is not required.

LED lighting has evolved into a promising solution for replacing conventional lighting sources, such as fluorescent and incandescent lights. However, designers face several obstacles in residential and commercial LED lighting applications up to 20W including bulb, down lighting (GU10/E17, E26/27, PAR30/38) and Tube/Bar. Implementing dimming capabilities in a conventional TRIAC dimmer infrastructure is challenging because of dimmer compatibility. Additionally, small space requirements remain a consideration.

Renesas Electronics Announces Driver IC for High-Efficiency LED Lighting Applications with Built-In Dimming Function

Linear Technology announces the LT3791, a synchronous buck-boost DC/DC LED driver and voltage controller, which can deliver over 100W of LED power. Its 4.7V to 60V input voltage range makes it ideal for a wide variety of applications, including automotive, industrial and architectural lighting. Similarly, its output voltage can be set from 0V to 60V, enabling the LT3791 to drive a wide range of LEDs in a single string.
