- [UK Now Allows Approved LED Replacement Bulbs in MOT Tests](https://led-professional.com/artikel/uk-now-allows-approved-led-replacement-bulbs-in-mot-tests): Regulations — From 14 October 2026, MOT testers must accept ECE approved LED replacement (LEDr) bulbs fitted in compatible halogen headlamp units on class 3, 4, 5 and 7 vehicles. The change does not apply to class 1 and 2 motorcycles, halogen units converted for HID bulbs, or full LED headlamp unit replacements. Approved LEDr products must carry a permanent, secure approval sticker on the vehicle visible during the MOT. Testers need only check the presence and condition of this sticker and must fail the headlamp where the sticker is missing, unreadable, appears tampered with, or does not match the fitted bulb.

- [Sunlight, UVB and Vitamin D – Human Centric Lighting Beyond Melanopic Stimulation](https://led-professional.com/artikel/sunlight-uvb-vitamin-d-human-centric-lighting-beyond-melanopic-stimulation): Human-Centric Lighting — by Ir. Rémy C. Broersma and Dr. Ir. Marcel P. Lucassen, Scientists at Signify Research Eindhoven UVB radiation initiates vital processes in our body, one of which is the production of vitamin D in the skin. It is well known that over-exposure to the sun may bring a risk. Less well known is that the same is true for insufficient sun exposure due to our indoor lifestyle. In Part 1 of this article, we first describe the scientific understanding behind vitamin D. In Part 2 we describe how artificial light can be enriched with a safe, low dose of UVB, to supplement natural vitamin D production in the skin. Not too much, not too little.
- [Light in the Service of Health – Bringing the Science of Light and Health into Everyday Life through Evidence-based Communication](https://led-professional.com/artikel/podcast-light-in-the-service-of-health): Human-Centric Lighting — Light does far more than let us see. In this episode of the LED professional podcast, Manuel Spitschan and Laura Kervezee, co-chairs of the Light for Public Health Initiative, explain how light acts as the master regulator of the body’s internal clock: it synchronises our physiology with the day outside, shapes mood and alertness, and times the release of melatonin, the hormone that governs sleep. The science is settled enough to act on, so the initiative has distilled it into 26 consensus statements on how light affects the body and well-being, written as practical, evidence-based guidance for individuals, employers, schools and cities. A compact 14-minute briefing on why good light is a public-health question, and what to do about it. Based on the authors’ article in LED professional Review #112.
- [deLIGHTed Talks #8: Good Light – Good Sleep](https://led-professional.com/artikel/delighted-talks-8-good-light-good-sleep): Human-Centric Lighting — Full recording of deLIGHTed Talks #8, held online by LpS DIGITAL on 24 April 2025 (91 minutes). Dr. Renske Lok (Stanford University) shows that bright light during the day deepens nighttime sleep, reduces nighttime awakenings, improves sleep efficiency and lowers next-day sleep inertia. Dr. Jeffrey Hubbard (University of Lausanne / EPFL) compares how light and darkness drive sleep and wakefulness in nocturnal mice and day-active Sudanian grass rats. Chronobiologist Dr. Virginie Gabel, founder of Clock&Me, moderates the session and the discussion on what the findings mean for lighting design.
- [Expanding the Horizons of Car Body Lighting – Expert Talk by Dr. Thorsten Anger, Lumileds](https://led-professional.com/artikel/expert-talk-expanding-the-horizons-of-car-body-lighting-lumileds): Automotive Lighting — Recording of an LpS DIGITAL expert talk, published on 29 November 2024 (34 minutes). Dr. Thorsten Anger, Product Manager 3D LED & MxN at Lumileds, explains why car body lighting – light guides, backlit surfaces and three-dimensional lit structures – is still largely bespoke and too costly for mainstream vehicles, and presents Lumileds’ modular answers: the LUXEON Versat 2016 LED family with new UltraBlue and Warm White options, dynamic signature lights with 192 individually addressable pixels, the LUXEON 3D LED series in three performance tiers, and a coin concept with 49 % optical efficiency.
- [Far-UVC LEDs transmit data at record speed | Ferdinand-Braun-Institut](https://led-professional.com/artikel/far-uvc-leds-transmit-data-at-record-speed-ferdinand-braun-institut): UV / IR — Researchers at Ferdinand-Braun-Institut (FBH), the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Cambridge demonstrated wireless optical communication using far-UVC LEDs at wavelengths below 235 nm, achieving data rates up to 1.5 gigabits per second over a 30 cm line-of-sight link. The FBH-developed LEDs are optimized for high optical power and fast modulation by segmenting the emitting surface to reduce capacitance and increase current density. Far-UVC offers low solar background outdoors and stronger Rayleigh scattering for potential non-line-of-sight links. Next steps include testing longer distances, non-line-of-sight performance, and environmental effects on transmission.
