Philips Switching More LED Lighting Orders to Lite-On Technology
Philips has switched more OEM orders for LED lighting products to Taiwan-based Lite-On Technology from epitaxial wafers and chip maker Lextar Electronics, according to industry sources.
Lite-On has landed more orders from Philips through cooperation with Taiwan-based Epistar LED chips, with production of LED lighting products undertaken at its factory in Changzhou, eastern China, the sources claimed.
Lextar confirmed orders for LED lighting products from Philips have decreased, indicating that it has accepted decreased orders because LED lighting products offer smaller gross margins to LED backlight units.
Philips has launched 600-lumen 9W LED light bulbs, equivalent to 60W incandescent bulbs, in the Taiwan market for sale at US$16.70.
