Demonstration at LpS Shows Zhaga-D4i's Plug-and-Play Interoperability of Streetlighting
Plug-and-play interoperability between luminaires and sensors and communication modules is an essential requirement for Smart City lighting. This has been the primary motivation for the collaboration between the Zhaga Consortium and the Digital Illumination Interface Alliance (DiiA) over the upcoming Zhaga-D4i specifications. Both organisations are therefore proud to announce that booth C17 at the LED professional Symposium in Bregenz showcased the world's first Zhaga-D4i interoperability demonstration.
Zhaga and DiiA have standardized the interface between outdoor LED luminaires and sensors and communication modules. The initial focus has been on outdoor lighting, with indoor applications being a work in progress.
The standardization effort brings together complementary specifications from the two organizations, which cover mechanical fit, digital communication and power requirements. This ensures plug-and-play interoperability of the luminaires and modules, backed by the Zhaga-D4i certification program.
Zhaga-D4i certification allows qualifying luminaires and modules to carry the dual Zhaga and D4i logos. This provides a clear indication of plug-and-play interoperability, which is a strong benefit for specifiers, purchasers, installers and end users.
Zhaga and DiiA expect to launch their joint Zhaga-D4i certification program in the fourth quarter of 2019.
The Zhaga booth C17 at the LED professional Symposium in Bregenz will host a functional set-up of streetlighting luminaires. The demonstration will show plug-and-play interoperability between a number of products being designed to meet the Zhaga-D4i specifications, and involve luminaires, sensors, communication modules, drivers and receptacles from companies such as BJB, Legrand, Osram, Schréder, Signify and TE Connectivity.
More information on the Zhaga-D4i certification program is available in an article in the May/June issue of LED Professional Review, which is also available on the Zhaga and DiiA websites (see the article).
About DiiA:
The Digital Illumination Interface Alliance (DiiA) is an open, global consortium of lighting companies that aims to grow the market for lighting-control solutions based on Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) technology. DiiA is driving the adoption of DALI-2, the latest version of the internationally-standardized DALI protocol. DALI-2 includes more product types, more features, clearer specifications and increased testing. DiiA operates the DALI‑2 certification program, bringing the promise of significantly-improved interoperability compared with current DALI systems in the market. DiiA develops test specifications for DALI-2 product compliance testing, and also creates new specifications for additional DALI-2 features and functions. About Zhaga:
Zhaga is a global association of lighting companies that is standardizing interfaces of components of LED luminaires, including LED light engines, LED modules, LED arrays, holders, electronic control gear (LED drivers) and connectivity fit systems. This helps to streamline the LED lighting supply chain, and to simplify LED luminaire design and manufacturing. Zhaga continues to develop specifications based on the inter-related themes of interoperable components, smart and connected lighting, and serviceable luminaires.
