Osram Invests in LiDAR Expert LeddarTech Inc.
Osram has acquired a strategic 25.1 percent share in LeddarTech Inc., a Canadian company that develops a proprietary LiDAR technology integrated into semiconductors and sensor modules for self-driving cars and driver assistance systems. LeddarTech specializes in solid-state LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) systems that use infrared light to monitor the area around them, and its advanced optical sensing technology is highly complementary with Osram’s semiconductor products. The two companies already work together and Osram has now made an investment in LeddarTech in the mid double-digit million euros.

Osram’s New Kulim LED Chip Factory Goes into Operation
Osram’s new LED chip factory in Kulim, Malaysia, begins operation on time. “We are both on schedule and within budget,” pointed out Olaf Berlien, CEO of Osram Licht AG, during the opening ceremony in Kulim on Thursday. “Given our enormous recent growth rates of 19 percent in the LED business, we are pleased to have the new production capacities. Our investment in Kulim also attests to the technology shift and our transition to becoming a high-tech corporation: At the beginning of this decade, conventional lighting still accounted for 80 percent of Osram's business. Today, two-thirds of our sales are based on optical semiconductors.”

Seoul Semiconductor Co., Ltd. and Seoul Viosys Co., Ltd. (collectively “Seoul”) announced that they have resolved a patent litigation that was filed on behalf of Seoul and The Regents of the University of California against Kmart Corporation. The patent case was filed in U.S. Federal District Court, asserting infringement of eight patents based upon Kmart’s sales of Kodak/Spotlite branded filament LED bulbs.
