San'an Licenses Japanese LED Patent Portfolio to Luminus Devices San'an Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. today announced that it has licensed the United States patents of an LED patent portfolio it recently acquired from a major Japanese company to its subsidiary, Luminus Devices, Inc. Epistar Promotes Co-Activation Service Model
Competition in the LED market has been heating up with China-based LED firms aggressively integrating the whole supply chain vertically from chips to packaging to modules. China-based firms are able to provide one-stop-shop services and use low-price strategies to expand their presence in the LED application market. This is negatively impacting Taiwan’s LED makers, especially small- and medium-size packaging and module firms, who are experiencing shrinking market share. Against this backdrop, Taiwan-based LED chipmaker Epistar began promoting Co-activation Service Model three years ago hoping to turn the tide by teaming up with Taiwan-based packaging and module firms. Osram Names Lamps Business Branch LEDVANCE Osram, one of the world's leading lighting manufacturers, continues to make progress with the carve-out of its general lighting lamps business. After the supervisory board of Osram Licht AG approved the carve-out of the unit in June 2015, the name of the new company has now also been decided. “We have opted for a combination of the terms ‘LED’ and ‘advance’ and will call the newly established company LEDVANCE,” said Olaf Berlien, Chief Executive Officer of Osram Licht AG. “The name reflects the trend toward LED in the lighting market as well as the opportunities arising from this development – opportunities LEDVANCE will actively exploit.” Read more »
