Gamma Scientific Awarded IES LM-80 Accreditation for LED Life Testing
The Gamma Scientific Laboratory has been awarded accreditation by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program for IES LM-80: 2008. IES LM-80 is an approved method for measuring lumen depreciation and maintenance of Solid State Lighting (LED) light sources, arrays and modules. The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) developed the standard to provide an objective method to evaluate and compare LED components from different manufacturers.

Osram Is First Chip Manufacturer To Switch Red and Yellow LED Fabrication To 6-Inch Wafers
Osram Opto Semiconductors is keeping pace with the constant growth of the market and switching its fabrication of red, orange and yellow light emitting diodes to 6-inch wafers. The German high-tech company is extending the fabrication of all large-wafer LEDs to the indium-gallium-aluminum-phosphide (InGaAlP) material system and expanding its production capacity. The company began switching fabrication of blue LED chips in 2011.

Toshiba International Corporation Announces Lighting Business Reorganization
Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) of Houston, Texas has announced a reorganization affecting its LED Lighting Systems Division. Toshiba Lighting and Technology Corporation (TLT), headquartered in Yokosuka, Japan, is responsible for Toshiba’s global lighting businesses and is implementing a reorganization of international operations. As a result, the LED Lighting Systems Division within TIC will discontinue most operations by March 31, 2014. The headquarters’ responsibility for Toshiba Lighting in the Americas will be transferred to Greenstar Lighting Products Inc. located in San Antonio, Texas. Greenstar is a wholly owned subsidiary of TLT.

Osram Opens New LED Assembly Plant in China
In a further move to strengthen its leading position in the market for light-emitting diodes (LED), Osram today officially opened its LED assembly plant in Wuxi, China. The factory has a floor area of about 100,000 square meters and will employ as many as 2,100 people by 2017. Osram is investing a low three-digit-million euro amount to set up the plant. “With this step, we’re not only expanding our fully loaded backend LED capacities but also boosting our presence in the world’s largest single lighting market,” said Wolfgang Dehen, Chief Executive Officer of Osram Licht AG. “Asia, and particularly China, are key growth drivers for the global lighting and therefore the LED industry.”
