UL Expands LED Lighting Testing Capability with Zhaga Authorized Testing Center
UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a world leader in advancing safety, today announced it has been named a Zhaga authorized testing center. This credential, coupled with UL’s LTL, Europe, and Nansha positions UL as one of the most comprehensive LED testing organizations in the world.
“UL has been a trusted member and supporter of the Zhaga consortium for many years and we are very proud to be named a Zhaga authorized testing center,” said Alberto Uggetti, Vice President and General Manager, UL Lighting. “This authorization underscores UL’s position as a key player in driving standardization and test compliance in the LED and lighting space.”
Zhaga is an industry-wide cooperation aimed at the development of standard specifications for the interfaces of LED light engines. The organization creates interface specifications for 'light engines' with the goal to promote interchangeability of light engines made by different manufacturers; different lighting applications need different light engines. Interchangeability is achieved by defining interfaces for a variety of application-specific light engines. Zhaga standards cover the physical dimensions, as well as the photometric, electrical and thermal behavior of LED light engines. Zhaga is established for the benefit of the consumers and professional buyers of light engines and luminaires, in the expectation that standardization will prevent market fragmentation into incompatible products.
This new testing service offering will be available separately or as a bundle with other UL lighting industry services such as Energy Star, performance testing and safety certification. For more information on UL Lighting and offerings, please visit www.ul.com/lighting.
