SSC Has Achieved Qualification for the UL Witness Test Data Program and Introduces Acrich2 LED to the Chinese LED Streetlight Market
Seoul Semiconductor(SSC), a global LED manufacturer , announced its qulification for UL WTDP which reduces the time it takes to get the UL Mark for products targeted to overseas markets by allowing the company to perform testing in its own laboratories. Furthermore SSC has announced the completion of its establishment of Acrich LED streetlights covering a section of 30km on Yangpu River road in Yangzhou city.
UL WTDP Approval:
Seoul Semiconductor (SSC) may now conduct UL tests on LEDs and modules in its own laboratories, under the supervision of a UL engineer. This allows the company to build on its foundation of manufacturing high-quality LED products such as Acrich, MJT, and nPola by adding in-house testing for the international standards that customers require. An added benefit of UL WTDP is speeding product introductions to global markets through the reduction in the time it takes to get the UL mark.
Jeong Min Yeong, Chief of the Reliability Team, Seoul Semiconductor expressed, “We will continue to react quickly to the needs of the global LED lighting market as it rapidly grows by focusing on reinforcing our internal capabilities so we can quickly provide high-quality solutions for LED light sources as requested by our global customers."
Seoul Semiconductor continues to make improvements to maintain its high-quality standards and its commitment to innovation and customer service. It already holds certifications to ISO/IEC 17025 “General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories” and ISO/TS 16949 “Quality Management Systems” as well as being part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s list of recognized laboratories for conducting LM-80 testing in order to meet ENERGY STAR® requirements for solid state lighting products.
Acrich Street Lights:
The reason Acrich LED streetlights, putting aside those of global competing firms, were chosen for the project of installation of LED streetlights in the city is that they are advantageous in minimizing the payback period within three years because the cost of installation and maintenance are dramatically reduced as well as Acrich streetlight is brighter and lighter than conventional DC LED streetlights.
Acrich 2 module is composed of MJT 4040 packages Multi Junction Technology is applied and Acrich IC which can replace AC/DC converter weighing almost 4kg, essential for conventional DC LED module. As a result, Acrich2 module enables lighting manufacturers to save time and cost to design the luminaries, as well as the power factor has been raised up to 0.99 and luminous efficiency has accomplished to 100lm/W.
From the perspective of durability, not only this product will allow the life span of streetlights to extend to as long as 50,000 hours by making unnecessary the converters responsible for the curtailment of life and malfunction, but it will also utilize existing streetlight poles as they are and change only the light source of the streetlights due to its lightness.
Jae-bin Choi, the head of lighting division of Seoul Semiconductor mentioned that Acrich LED which had previously been used for the indoor lighting started to apply to the streetlights which is one of outdoor lightings, after China’s recognition of its high confidence and long life span as well as high output and efficiency, and now other cities, in turn, are establishing Acrich LED streetlights and tunnel illumination in their streets. He also stressed that the company will lead global outdoor lighting market with Acrich which is next generation LED module optimized for outdoor lighting.
* What is Power factor?
It means the ratio between the electric pressure actually transferred to the electric machine and the efficacy that electric current performs, so ‘Power factor is low(bad)’ refers to the invalid electricity wasted
*MJT: Multi Junction TechnologyMJT stands for Multi Junction Technology, and it can be driven higher Voltage than Conventional DC LEDs. While High Voltage LEDs in the market are designed with complicated circuit connecting many LED chips physically, MJT is using Multi Cells integrated chips to produce various Voltage types and can be applied in Acrich2 module at AC power. Since it use only one chip, defect rate is significantly low compared to conventional LED using several chips. MJT’s chip design is optimized so its lm/mm2 is exceptional high and MJT package performs 130lm/W at operational current rating. If MJT packages apply to a module, it delivers 100lm/W which is 10% higher than existing DC LED module.
