Dow Corning to Showcase the Latest in Ground-breaking Optical Silicone Technology and LED Design at LIGHTFAIR 2017

Dow Corning, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company and a global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation, will unveil next week at LIGHTFAIR International 2017 (Booth #2557) a significant expansion to its award-winning Moldable Optical Silicones family. The company will also showcase the latest advances and applications of its industry-leading silicone solutions for LED lighting, including an innovative LED lamp developed by Selux Corp. and lens designs pioneered by Dow Corning customer and co-exhibitor LumenFlow® Corp.

“We look forward to unveiling our three latest Moldable Optical Silicone products to current and future customers at LIGHTFAIR 2017, and discussing how these cutting-edge materials can further broaden design freedoms for secondary lenses and optical elements used in high-brightness LED lamps and luminaires,” said Rogier Reinders, global marketing director for Advanced Assembly Solutions at Dow Corning. “While these new products highlight future possibilities for customers, Dow Corning’s booth will also showcase successful LED lighting designs and applications from Selux, LumenFlow and other industry leaders that have leveraged the power of our advanced silicone solutions.”

Selux, the designer and manufacturer of the next-generation light engine on display in Dow Corning’s LFI booth, engineered a new Gen 5 module comprised of seven LEDs. The optics for each LED are fabricated from Dow Corning® MS-1002 Moldable Optical Silicone, which helped Selux reduce the bill of materials, streamline assembly and provide reliable protection for the LED dies in its advanced design.

LumenFlow, a photonics engineering and manufacturing firm, will be on hand at Dow Corning’s booth, where it will feature several cutting-edge optical designs enabled by Dow Corning’s Moldable Optical Silicone technology. Among them is a total internal reflection (TIR) silicone lens array for linear lighting that offers low glare and reduced hot spots in a low-profile design with lower molding and assembly costs.

In addition to these successes, Dow Corning’s booth at LFI will further display a broad selection of advanced LED components and finished assemblies that the company’s industry-leading silicones helped to enable. Dow Corning’s expert LED lighting team will also be on hand at LFI to discuss unique design flexibilities, proven reliability and simpler processability enabled by optical silicones.

“The competitive drive to develop more efficient, appealing and differentiated LED lighting designs is burning as bright as ever,” said Reinders. “Dow Corning remains committed to working closely with industry leaders worldwide to challenge today’s design boundaries and push LED lamps and luminaires to ever greater levels of reliability and performance.”

A market leader in materials, expertise and collaborative innovation for LED lighting concepts, Dow Corning offers solutions that span the entire LED value chain, adding reliability and efficiency for sealing, protecting, adhering, cooling and shaping light across all lighting applications.
