CIE Midterm Meeting 2025: Call for Contributions and First Conference Announcement

The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) is pleased to announce the CIE Midterm Meeting 2025, set to take place in Vienna, Austria. This significant event will gather experts and researchers from around the globe to discuss the latest advancements in the fields of light and lighting, colour and vision, photobiology, and image technology.

The CIE Scientific Conference will be held from July 7 to July 9, 2025, preceded by the CIE General Assembly and other administrative meetings, and followed by the CIE Division and Technical Committee (TC) meetings from July 10 to July 11, 2025.

  • September 13, 2024: Final Call for Contributions, Submission opens
  • November 15, 2024: Conference registration opens
  • December 10, 2024: Close of abstract submission
  • May 1, 2025: Early bird registration ends

Key Conference Highlights

The conference will address crucial topics such as the impact of the digital age and artificial intelligence on lighting, controls, and measurement. Key discussions will include:

  • Application of cone fundamentals in understanding light perception
  • Health benefits and concerns like temporally modulated light and glare sources
  • Evaluation of virtual reality and augmented reality displays
  • Efforts to minimize obtrusive light and sky glow

Why Attend?

Attendees will benefit from three days of scientific programming, including a special networking event for young researchers and a welcome reception for all conference participants. The event will also honor outstanding contributions with awards for Best Paper, Best Poster, and Best Student Paper. All submissions will undergo a double-blind peer review process, and the conference proceedings will be published and submitted for indexing to Scopus.

Keynote Speakers

CIE is excited to announce our distinguished keynote speakers:

  • Stephen Westland, Professor of Colour Science and Technology, University of Leeds, will provide insights on Colour and AI.
  • Dr. Dietmar Hager, renowned Austrian Astro-photographer, will share his expertise in star photography.
  • Prof. George C. Brainard, Director of the Light Research Program, Thomas Jefferson University, will discuss "Light and Human Health," covering topics such as phototransduction, melanopsin, and circadian rhythms.

Call for Contributions

The three-day scientific conference will accept abstracts on the core topics of the CIE, including:

  • Vision and Colour
  • Physical Measurement of Light and Radiation
  • Interior Environment and Lighting Design
  • Transportation and Exterior Applications
  • Photobiology and Photochemistry
  • Image Technology

COE also welcomes abstracts on related topics such as smart lighting, sustainable lighting technologies, integrative lighting for indoors and outdoors, metrology for new technologies, and image display in augmented and virtual reality modes.
